A wise teacher once told me that the artist should paint (or sculpt) subjects that are familiar, the environment around them. What do you see around you, he would ask me. When I lived in New York City, I painted the city streets and icons. When I lived in the country, I sculpted crows and juncos. Now that I am in South Florida, I am painting the natural landscape, birds and beautiful skies.
